A-frame

A basic structure that houses simple projects to serve artists.

A hand-made but sturdy space to support gestures of arts advocacy.

A-frame is about making connections while doing the things that need doing.

Past A-frame Iniatives

  • Spring Photo Studio (April 2024)

Artist comrades new and old were invited to join us for a cost-effective, aerodynamic, mini headshot session with friend and colleague Andrew Parry!

This session warmly invited new and emerging artists in the performing & visual arts to join us at mêtawê theatre, with the aim to make this professional cost affordable & accessible by offering a sliding scale of $10-20 per session. Artists emerged with a brand new headshot for their portfolio.

  • 4 Days of Awareness Through Movement® for Sectoral Burnout (December 2023)

Our community joined Artistic Associate Johanna Bundon in this restful learning environment to replenish & restore pleasure in the small movements of life.

Participants were invited to lie down, make small movements, and notice distinctions in effort & sensation. Together we oriented to ease & pleasure. This practice prioritizes ideas like  ‘Slowing down’ and ‘Doing less than we can’. Each 40-45 minute lesson was followed by tea, seasonal treats + chats.

On the final day, folks were invited to be nourished by warm food, savour a seasonal story, or lift their voice in song with friends & colleagues. Special contributions to the day were offered by New Dance Horizons, Vuyo Ginindza, and Melanie Monique Rose.

  • ZOOM ZOOM PEER MOMENTUM (Spring 2022)

Are you working on a SK-Arts Independent Artist Grant or a Canada Council Explore & Create Grant? Do you need some motivation? Someone to bounce questions off of? Or some aerodynamic workspace?

Curtain Razors & the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance invited the arts community to join fellow artists in a Zoom Room with other folks who are grant writing, to bounce ideas and offer feedback, counsel , and encouragement!

  • A + B grant mentorship! (2021 & 2022)

Artists & Big arts leaders Connect to strengthen grant applications from our region.

We invited Artists to offer their current grant applications to a one-week mentorship process supported by a local arts leader. This was a chance to uplift their application and build capacity through the supportive presence of an outside eye.

Artists and Big arts leaders worked together to strengthen the artist's grant and honour the artist's intention & goals.

Let's practice reciprocity across the arts sector!

    ————————————

In its first year, this program supported artists whose applications were collectively awarded $190,000 in grant support!

Saskatchewan Arts Alliance & Curtain Razors proudly partnered to grow the impact and reach of this project.
