Burnt Sienna Boulevard
“Burnt Sienna has grown over past five years. With so many wise generous Burnt Sienna guests, there has been one big clear takeaway: it is crucial to begin these conversations earlier AND with our younger ones.
I've been re-dreaming Burnt Sienna as existing in my neighbourhood with a wider, younger audience and their families. This ‘cousin’ to the original show considers how big concepts of race, identity, and culture can thoughtfully exist in an interactive variety show on "a street where we all live": BURNT SIENNA BOULEVARD!
On the Boulevard, we can practice:
how to share all kinds of perspectives on race relations, identity, home & family,
how to offer “real” representation,
how to model making good relationships,
how to serve ALL of this with humour, song, dance, metaphor, colour, joy & reflection,
how to authentically relate to young ones,
AND how to make it hyper local - Guest Appearances by local artists! And Puppets!
Burnt Sienna Boulevard integrates my childhood TV experiences & the Burnt Sienna format. Like Kermit the Frog, I host the show alongside my family as the main cast. Youth, local artists & I collaborate on segments - sketch comedy, interviews, dance.
This participatory show is for kids of all ages, and is kid-spirit fuelled! The hope is that families leave the show, and conversations are sparked in the travels home.” - Kris Alvarez
